Clane Community Council, in association with its subcommittee Clane Tidy Towns, have proposed that parts of Clane continue to be declared a Poster-Free Zone for election campaigns, as illustrated in the map below.
This voluntary initiative is based on feedback from residents, businesses and Clane Public-Realm Planning initiative public meetings, and has received the support of Kildare County Council.
Our sincere thanks to those candidates that support this initiative.
Information on all candidates, and our poster-free zone initiative, will be provided on our community notice board and here on our website once the list of candidates is finalised.
The membership of Clane Community Council is renewed every two years. Our original nomination process for the 2024-2025 term closed in December. Unfortunately, the process was undermined by vulnerabilities in the online system which allowed non-genuine entries. It was not possible to properly validate the nominations received. A new nomination process has now been launched, as set out below.
Members of the community resident in the area indicated in the map below are welcome to nominate themselves, or be nominated, via the nomination form available from behind the counter in Clane Post Office. Completed forms should be posted into the Nominations Box on the Clane Post Office counter by 6 p.m. on Monday September 9th, 2024.

We recently advertised for nominations for a new term of Clane Community Council. We received a significant number of nominations, in excess of the number of places on the Council.
We are working on the appropriate next steps to advance the process.

We have to postpone the SGM that was scheduled for Monday March 14th at 8 pm.
We apologise for the very short notice.
Very significant differences of understanding exist between Clane Community Council and those who requested the SGM. These differences are in relation to the way in which the meeting will be managed and run. It has not been possible to resolve these differences in time for the meeting.
We hope to resolve these difficulties in order to reschedule the SGM as soon as possible.

An Bord Pleanála has destroyed Clane’s sustainable Local Area Plan by adding huge “Strategic Housing Developments” and other permissions that together would deliver 525 units instead of respecting the official 145 limit that now applies.
All 1249 permissions in total since 2017 would result in a 50% rise in population, 1500 additional cars on our roads, and an almost 50% rise in traffic congestion.
282 units have been constructed since 2017. A further 442 have finalised planning permissions. Of these, 59 are currently under construction and site clearance works for the remaining 383 units commenced in February 2022.
We are challenging the 525 units beyond these 442 that are already on their way.
This unplanned building explosion will impact everyone: school-place shortages, after-school activity waiting lists, chronic traffic congestion, pressure on all local services and local amenities.
Our legal advice is that An Bord Pleanála acted incorrectly and illegally and Clane Community Council and concerned residents have decided to organised legal challenges to save Clane from this massive over-development.
Unfortunately, this €40,000 Sustainable Clane Judicial Review is our last opportunity to protect a sustainable Clane, but we are encouraged by the fact that 85% of Judicial Reviews of Strategic Housing Developments have succeeded due to An Bord Pleanála acting outside the law.
One of our judicial reviews has already been conceded by An Bord Pleanála and their decision quashed. Three remaining decisions are the subject of ongoing judicial reviews:
Capdoo/Abbeyland: SHD Permission for 333 Units
Capdoo/Abbeyland: Permission for 91 Units within the larger site
Millicent: SHD Permission for 192 Units
Depending on the High Court decisions, these two sites have the potential to add 283 or 525 more units, which remains a cause of great concern given the 145 unit housing allocation under existing development plans.
All are invited to the 48th Annual General Meeting of Clane Community Council which this year will be held online via Zoom on Monday, February 7th, 2022 at 8pm.
