Our Vision:
To achieve a shared sense of place, purpose and community in Clane
Clane Community Council is a voluntary organisation, elected by the people of Clane, providing a forum to raise and deal with any issues of possible importance to the community.
Formed on May 16th 1973, Clane Community Council organises Clane Tidy Towns, Clane and Rathcoffey Community Games and owns and manages several key amenities in Clane on behalf of the community. These include the landmark Clane Abbey, Clane Friary and Abbey Cemetery, Clane Stream Park (site of the new Playground) and the Clane Liffeyside Nature Park (a haven for native wildlife). Clane Community Council also publishes Le Chéile, Clane’s community magazine.
Clane Community Council is governed as per its Constitution. For the purposes of the constitution, the locality of Clane is deemed to include the townlands as reproduced in the map below. Clane Community Council is affiliated with Muintir na Tíre.
The Council has an Executive, and is organised into the various subcommittees introduced below.
The Council meets most months of the year and all are welcome to our meetings.
Executive
The executive manages and runs the Council. It is composed of the chairman, vice-chairman, treasurer, secretary, PRO, assistant treasurer, assistant secretary and assistant PRO.
Finance
The finance subcommittee manages the finances of the Council, both incomes and expenditures.
Tidy Towns
The Tidy Towns subcommittee organises Clane’s Tidy Towns efforts. It manages the Tidy Towns plan for Clane, submits our application to the National Tidy Towns competition, organises regular cleanups and local competitions. Please see Tidy Towns for more information.
Friary & Abbey Cemetery
The Friary & Abbey Cemetery subcommittee manages the historic Clane Friary ruins and the surrounding Abbey Cemetery Please see Friary and Abbey Cemetery for more information.
Abbey Hall
The Abbey Hall subcommittee manages the landmark Abbey in the heart of Clane. This building, owned by the Community Council, is surrounded by Clane Memorial Park. Please see The Abbey for more information.
ClaneWatch
The ClaneWatch subcommittee has been recently created to review and respond any concerns that the local community may have regarding security, working with the appropriate authorities. Please see ClaneWatch for more information.
Community Games
The Community Games subcommittee organises the annual Clane and Rathcoffey Community Games. Please see Community Games for more information.
Streets
The Streets subcommittee tackles any issues regrading the streets at the heart of Clane.
