Loughanure Area Text Alert Scheme Meeting

CCC LogoPublic meeting in The Abbey Community Centre at 8pm on Thursday October 19th.

Clane Community Council is assisting people in Loughanure, Butterstream, Firmount and Ballinagappa to establish a Text Alert scheme for the area. We expect that we will finally have the above scheme set up and running by end of October 2017. A meeting is now arranged  to inform you of the mechanics of the system and to accept late entries to the scheme. We will also be able to share the experience of other groups already in motion in the area.

We have ordered 7 Text Alert signs to be erected in locations advised by An Garda Siochana and Kildare County Council.

The Text Alert initiative is organised by Muintir na Tire, and supported by an Garda Siochana, and has been highly successful in combatting crime and in such other ways as finding missing persons, missing animals, and saving health and lives of vulnerable members of the communities. The effectiveness of Text Alert has proven to discourage undesirable activity and communities feel safer in their homes.

The following people are involved in setting up the scheme:

  • Oisin O’Shaughnessy      087 6708931     Hon. Treasurer
  • Tom Treacy                       087 2046370
  • Kathleen Gately
  • Patricia Healy                   085 7730500
  • Noelle Maertens
  • Niall Keena                       087 6204747     Hon. Secretary
  • Bernie Foley                     087 2737402
  • Sinead Hussey
  • Padraig McEvoy               086 8658262
  • John Daly                          086 2583635     Hon. Chairperson

The meeting is being held in The Abbey, Clane at 8pm on Thursday October 19th.

Community Council Golf Classic – August 25th at Knockanally

CCC LogoClane Community Council’s annual Golf Classic, generously sponsored again by Larchfield Park Nursing Home, is the main source of funding for Clane Community Council. The money raised supports the voluntary work that the Council does in the village. This includes the need for repairs of the Abbey, which is not just a Community Centre but the very symbol of Clane.  The Council provides a forum for discussion on important local issues as well as representation of the Community’s interests. It is also the co-ordinating organisation for many community projects, such as:

    • Tidy Towns
    • Community Games
    • The Abbey Community Centre
    • The Abbey Garden of Remembrance
    • Friary and Abbey Graveyard on the Sallins Road
    • Liffeyside Nature Park
    • The Stream Park in the village centre, now the playground
    • Clane Heritage
    • ClaneWatch

We hope that you will be able to support our Golf Classic at Knockanally Golf Club on Friday August 25th. Tee-times are from 1.00pm to 4pm but other times can be accommodated.

    • Three person team, inclusive of dinner, €150
    • Sponsorship of a hole is €65
    • Team plus hole sponsorship €200

The time sheet is in Marron’s Pharmacy. Your support is very much appreciated and will be acknowledged through Le Chéile, local newspapers, Clane notice-board and prominent signs at the golf course on the day .

Contact Des Marron ( 045-868112 ) or Des Drumm ( 086 2241761)  for tee-times or other members of the Golf Classic Sub-committee:  Tom Cleary (087 8273918) or Jack Kinsella (086 2630520).

    Award Winning Estates Competition 2017

Clane Tidy Towns is delighted to announce the launch of Clane’s Award Winning Estates competition 2017, thanks again to the generous sponsorship of Clane Project Centre.

The competition is designed to help recognize the great work that residents put into maintaining their Residential Areas. All estates – new and established – are encouraged to enter.

For all of this year’s details, including information on what the judges look for, please download our Entry Pack. Entry forms can be handed to any member of the Tidy Towns committee, or submitted online here. You can also browse details of previous competitions.

You will see that this year Clane Tidy Towns is looking to see how we can support the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, working to protect our butterflies, bees and other vital insects for future generations. The Clane Tidy Towns team is focusing on the public areas of Clane, but gardens and housing estates have a valuable role to play too. For 20 low-cost or no-cost suggestions have a browse of the Pollinator Plan Action Pack for Gardens. If your estate, or your garden, adopts pollinator friendly features we encourage you to log your efforts on the national acticity map online, or feel free to email ClaneTidyTowns@gmail.com and we will be delighted to upload the details for you – it all adds to Clane’s Tidy Towns efforts.

Thank you for your continued support – and to the estates that enter: best of luck!

    Clane St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Clane Community Council were delighted to again participate in Clane’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade organised by the hardworking Clane St. Patrick’s Festival Committee…and this year we were honoured to be awarded Best non-Commercial Float Winner 2017.

Clane Community Council’s Float promoting heroes of Clane!

A big thanks to all who helped out with the entry, in particular to Power Food Technology and the Drumm family who contributed very generously towards our float, and the popular primary-school colouring competition we ran in parallel (we received over 225 entries!!). The comic book we created showcased some of the super work that volunteers contribute locally, and encourages everyone to step up and be a superhero for their community!
