Townlands of Clane

Ireland is divided into more than 60,000 small areas of land known as Townlands.

Historically, townlands were organised into larger areas of administration such as Civil Parishes, Baronies and of course Counties.

In the present day, Townlands have been organised into Electoral Divisions. These Electoral Divisions are used to define political boundaries including Local Electoral Areas used in County Council Elections, and Dáil constituencies for General Elections.

The area of Clane has now been mapped by volunteers onto OpenStreetMap and you can use the embedded map below to help discover your townland. Zoom in to the part of Clane of interest. Also, the borders of some townlands have been adjusted over time. These adjustments can have unexpected consequences. In and around Clane we now have three townlands that have been split into two separate areas of land: Ovidstown, Ballynagappagh and Longtown Demesne.

Please let us know if you have any other townland related information that may be suitable for inclusion here.
